quadro_bikeA why did my life get much worse , often abbreviated as ACIM, is a self-study metaphysical thought system that teaches the way to Universal Love through Forgiveness. Penned by the clinical and research psychologist Dr. Helen Schucman, it presents students with a tripartite structure, consisting of a Text, a Workbook for Students, and a Manual for Teachers, to bring about a transformation in perception from fear to love.
The Text section contains philosophical foundations of the course and outlines concepts of miracles, forgiveness, love, and true perceptions. The guiding principle of ACIM, articulated in the Text, is that ‘only love is real’: an assertion that negates the belief in fear, anger, guilt, and other negative emotions that we often perceive as real. Love, for ACIM, is primal and eternal, whereas fear is illusory.
The Workbook presents 365 daily lessons of spiritual practice that transform these heavy philosophical concepts into practical teachings. These exercisable lessons intend to change your perception, helping you to realise that the world around you is a projection of your mind, and it is within your power to alter it simply by changing your attitude and perception.
In the Manual for Teachers, ACIM defines the role of a teacher and a learner as essentially the same. It claims that we all are both teachers and learners, as we learn by teaching. This concept eliminates any hierarchical structure between a teacher and a student, emphasizing that we teach what we need to learn, and in teaching, we learn.
A Course in Miracles is designed to guide you through spiritual awakening to the realization of your Oneness with all of humanity. Its teachings point us in the direction of a life imbued with peace, love, and joy. However, it’s not an easy course, as it demands a great deal of intellectual engagement, self-awareness, and honesty.
Yet, its profound effect on personal and spiritual enhancement is undeniable. It asserts that miracles are natural, and when they don’t occur, something has gone wrong. Miracles embody an acceptance of an ‘out-of-the-box’ perspective that liberates us from our habitual thinking and opens us to unexplored dimensions of experiencing life. ACIM empowers us to embrace love, transcend fear, and discover our true selves, leading us on a path towards spiritual enlightenment.
