quadro_bikeWhen your car suddenly breaks down in the middle of a busy road you need to think fast, act fast and call someone who will as well act fast and come pull you out of rush traffic into safety.
Sadly a lot of towing services know of your dire need to have quick response time and will overcharge you for their services. After telling you “no worries” on the phone first of course tho, and then once your car is hooked onto their truck and your vehicle and fate is in their hands they will suddenly drop a horrendous price on you simply to make a higher profit of your vulnerability.
I know it’s messed up but it’s reality everywhere.
So here are a few things to look for when choosing a Towing Service or Roadside Assistance provider:
1. Are They On Yellow Pages
Many redneck backyard ” Box truck towing near me ” don’t even bother spending a minute on their online presence, so it’s oftentimes a good first indicator if they don’t seem to have ANY online presence like their own website, GoogleMyBusiness etc.
Stick with the ones that are well represented.
2. Can You Find More Information About Them On Google
This one is simple.
I know time is of the essence when you’re stranded at the side of the road, but a quick Google search could potentially save you lots of money, stress and, well, time.
A good towing service is often to be found in more than one place. They can usually be found in online business directories across the web.
Keep your eyes open.
3. Ask Them On The Phone To Speak To The Owner
Of course it might not always be possible to get connected to the business owner directly, but it definitely helps you to get a clearer picture of the company when you exchange a few words – and targeted questions – with the main decisionmaker.
Dare!
4. Does The Truck Driver Look Reliable
Sure – don’t judge a book by its cover, but oftentimes the driver’s visual appearance gives a fair indicator of the company’s overall respectability. You wouldn’t believe how many half-drunk redneck hillbillies we had to deal with and the horror stories our clients have told us about from their own experience.
It is definitely something you do not want to have to deal with yourself when you can avoid it.
So keep your eyes (and nose ! ) open when the truck driver arrives at site. It is never to late to say
“Sorry mate, I changed my mind. [insert random excuse here] Thank you for coming out but a friend of mine just confirmed last minute that they are actually able to come and tow me out and away. I can actually even spend the night at their place …”
You haven’t agreed to anything yet before your car is hooked onto their truck.
Risk being a douche in order to not get ripped off.
I hope this (incomplete) list was able to give you a little bit of insight into the things you should take care of before blindly embracing a random towing company.
After all we usually unexpectedly get stuck “in the middle of nowhere” and have to deal with the local towers, right?
